LONDON EVENT PREVIEW: Don’t Break My Love Tour

One of the most talked about producers of the last two years, Nicolas Jaar arrives in London on his ‘Don’t Break My Love’ Tour to play at The Roundhouse. Jaar uses Ableton to match live vocals (sung through a vintage Shure Super 55) alongside a supporting band, it’s typically a slower tempo than most live contemporary electronica, his set wavers between 90 - 115bpm and earned him Resident Advisor’s number one live act of 2011. Musical influences and many of the samples featured in Jaar’s sets and productions herald from artists as varied as The Grateful Dead, Dave Brubeck Quartet, Jacques Brel and Ray Charles, blending them with his music and often played with a large element of the originals still intact. With three UK dates announced, the Don’t Break My Love tour (following an EP of the same name) showcases two recent signees to Jaar’s label Clown & Sunset, Acid Pauli and Soul Keita. In the last year Roundhouse has ramped up it’s electronic music offering, having hosted Short Circuit’s Raster Noton showcase, as well as A Taste of Sonar the venue is becoming an established property in London’s electronic music circuit. The former steam-engine repair shed, with seated balconies and a main stage is the perfect setting for live performances, particularly one that saw Fabric sell out twice on a weeknight last year, giving a great kick-start to Jaar and his unique performances in 2012.
