SINGLE REVIEW: Lando Kal - Rhythm Sektion

Marginally preceding the release of his sophomore album as one-half of Lazer Sword, the end of next week sees Antaeus Roy's latest release under his Star Wars-inspired Lando Kal moniker. Following on from his Further EP last year, the American returns on Scuba’s increasingly prolific Hotflush imprint. As an increasing presence within both the San Francisco and New York underground club scenes, Roy’s futuristic and often unconventionally challenging cuts tend to contrast elements of R&B, jungle, techno and house against a backbone of broken bass. Once again, this is the case on both tracks, with the superior ‘Rhythm Sektion' layering yearning rave vocals around a menacing acid swagger to great effect, while the introspective B-side 'Inquisition' sticks closer to previous releases. Arguably, Kal's best output to date. Dexter Park
