SINGLE REVIEW: Tycho - Awake

Almost exactly two years on from the release of his ‘Dive' LP, Scott Hansen (aka Tycho) has shared a new track from his forthcoming album. No details have been announced as to when the Californian’s second coming will arrive - only that it will be next year. This digital-only taster was released today without notice via Ghostly International, and is resoundingly typical of Hansen’s analogue-heavy melodies to date. To draw external comparisons, the guitar arrangement is notably reminiscent of the pastoral strummings of John Tejada’s I’m Not A Gun project, while the shuffle-snap percussion sits closer to Bonobo’s postmillennial output. There’s a case to present it lacks any real artistic progression, but judged on its own merit, it’s an undeniably rousing score of soft rock-leaning electronica.
