SINGLE REVIEW: Ahmet Sisman - Dancer In The Dark EP

Clearly influenced by Sufi-culture and with a resourceful production technique not too dissimilar from fellow countryman Onur Ozer (who smashed Cable over the weekend for RA), Istanbul native Ahmet Sisman makes a return of some note with the ‘Dancer In The Dark’ EP. In the space of just three years, the now Essen-based producer has deservedly become one of the most widely revered new names on the German house circuit. Having already released for Cocoon, Leslzmo:r, Dumb Unit and his own Slash imprint, young Ahmet lands back on Munich’s Stock5. Each of the 4 tracks fuse yearning vocals with emotive yet grooving house rhythms, but the deft execution of spacious depth means they have all have clear distinction. The Pen’s pick is the timeless deep house of ‘Unknown Destination’, closely followed by the sensual nocturnal funk of ‘Third Room’, but the soulful ‘Get Low’ and the epic closer ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ are both worthy of recommendation. Anyone who’s been looking for a slighty tougher yet reminiscent progression of Kenny Dixon Jr.’s seminal Black Mahogany should take note.
